Introducing RIKO NPO 99 – a device for repairing and installing new posts and straightening road safety barriers
With the innovative RIKO NPO 99 device, we present a simple procedure for removing and replacing damaged posts. A winch is used for extraction and a hydraulic hammer for installing new posts of various dimensions.
The device operates on a single- or dual-circuit hydraulic system, compatible with different vehicles such as tractors, trucks, and Unimogs. It is easily mounted onto the vehicle using a standard mounting plate size 3 or 5. In the case of a Unimog with a rear-mounted plate and appropriate hydraulics, the NPO 99 can also be installed on the rear side of the vehicle and used for work on the left side. The support wheel is height-adjustable and serves as a stabilizer, ensuring steady operation even on uneven terrain. Lateral movement of up to 90 cm facilitates maneuvering and handling of the device. For safety and operator comfort, the NPO 99 is equipped with a portable control panel, allowing operation and monitoring from a safe distance.
The control panel provides various functions such as on/off, hammer start/stop, carriage position adjustment, winch control, telescope 1/2 adjustment, raising and lowering the support wheel, and hydraulic lateral tilt of the carriage.
The NPO 99 device enables the following main work functions:
- Extraction and replacement of damaged barrier posts: The tool is adaptable to different shapes and dimensions of posts.
- Straightening of barriers: The device enables straightening of safety barriers.
- Hole preparation: A special tool with different types of tips is available for preparing holes for PVC, wooden signposts, and other purposes.
Additional equipment also includes a hydraulic hole-drilling device with drill bits of 150 or 300 mm diameter and up to 1000 mm depth. This device is also useful for preparing holes for roadside tree planting and other purposes.
The device comes in standard RAL 2011 color but can also be customized to customer preferences and requirements.

Installation procedure of a new post:
- Mount the NPO 99 device onto a suitable carrier vehicle with single (tractor) or dual-circuit (Unimog) hydraulics on a three-point hitch or municipal plate.
- Connect the device to the vehicle via hydraulic couplings and an electrical cable.
- Move the vehicle to the post installation location and stop at the roadside.
- Activate the hydraulic system.
- Remove the control panel from its holder and test all operating functions from a safe distance.
- Lower the support wheel so that the device is aligned and stable (achieve the most vertical position of the carriage).
- Use the hydraulic cylinder to adjust the vertical position in relation to the driving direction.
- Use the telescope to move the guide in the housing above the post driving point.
- Insert the profile matching the post profile into the hammer housing and ensure the post sits properly in the hammer piston and stands vertically.
- Activate the hammer and set the number of hammer strokes on the flow regulator.
- When the desired post height is reached, stop the hammer and lift it.
