SKI Guardrail mower

The SKI guardrail mower is a professional solution for maintaining embankments along roads and highways. It is designed for efficient mowing beneath guardrails and safety barriers, as well as around roadside delineator posts, poles, trees and other obstacles.

The SKI series is designed for mounting on tractors and Mercedes-Benz Unimog vehicles with a front mounting system and PTO drive. The patented mowing system enables continuous operation around obstacles, high productivity and a minimal amount of uncut vegetation.

SKI mower models

The SKI DX model is designed for mowing beneath guardrails on the right-hand side of the vehicle. The front-mounted version is suitable for tractors and Mercedes-Benz Unimog vehicles with a front mounting system and PTO drive, enabling fast and efficient maintenance of road infrastructure.

The SKI DX-SX model features a central pivot joint that allows the entire mowing unit to rotate. This enables mowing beneath guardrails on both the right-hand and left-hand sides of the vehicle, significantly increasing machine flexibility and reducing working time on different road sections.

Main advantages of the SKI mower

  • Efficient mowing beneath guardrails and safety barriers, as well as around roadside delineator posts, poles and other obstacles
  • Patented hydraulic lifting system for the outer cutting disc
  • The inner cutting disc continues mowing while the outer disc is raised
  • Mowing around obstacles without stopping the machine
  • Self-levelling system for adapting to the terrain
  • Electric control of all working functions

Front mounting on a tractor or Unimog

The SKI mower is designed as a front-mounted attachment for tractors equipped with a front three-point linkage and front PTO. With an additional adapter, it can also be mounted on the DIN 76060 municipal mounting plate of a Mercedes-Benz Unimog.

The 2-in-1 mounting system allows the same mowing unit to be used on different carrier vehicles. The machine is driven by a front PTO operating at 1,000 rpm. The 12/24 V electrical system is suitable for both tractors and municipal vehicles, while all working functions are controlled through an electric control unit.

Patented mowing system for guardrails

The patented hydraulic system allows the outer arm and outer cutting disc to be raised when passing over roadside delineator posts, poles, trees or other obstacles. When the arm is raised, the outer cutting disc stops automatically, while the inner disc continues mowing without interruption.

Thanks to the continuous operation of the inner disc, the machine does not need to stop or significantly reduce its working speed when passing an obstacle. This enables faster maintenance of long guardrail sections and reduces the amount of uncut vegetation around roadside obstacles.

Mowing on the right and left side

The SKI DX-SX version features a central pivot joint around which the entire mowing unit rotates. This design enables mowing beneath guardrails on both the right-hand and left-hand sides of the vehicle.

The rotating mowing unit increases the machine’s flexibility on different road sections and reduces the need for additional manoeuvring of the carrier vehicle.

Automatic opening and closing of the cutting discs

When the cutting discs come into contact with an obstacle, they open with the assistance of a mechanical servo system. After the obstacle has been passed, the electro-hydraulic system automatically closes the mowing unit and returns it to its normal working position.

The hydraulic control also allows both cutting discs to be fully opened. This function makes it easier to overcome larger obstacles during operation and to position the mowing unit around the guardrail when starting work.

Electric safety system during operation

The electric safety system monitors the position of the outer arm and the operation of the cutting discs. When the outer arm is raised by more than 15° while passing an obstacle, the drive of the outer cutting disc stops automatically, while the inner disc continues mowing. When the outer arm returns below an angle of 15°, the outer disc automatically resumes operation, without requiring a system reset.

Electric safety system of the SKI mower when raising the outer arm

When the arm is raised fully into the vertical position, for example at the end of work or when moving into the transport position, the drive of both cutting discs is stopped for safety. To restart the discs, the mowing unit must be lowered into the working position and the disc drive reactivated using the selector switch.

Adapting the mowing unit to the terrain

Self-levelling system for the cutting discs: The cutting discs are connected to the support columns by a mechanical parallelogram system with 15 cm of travel. The system allows the discs to follow the shape and unevenness of the terrain and helps maintain a consistent cutting height.

Vertical adjustment of the mowing unit: The inner support column provides 35 cm of vertical adjustment. This allows the operator to adjust the position of the mowing unit according to the ground level, the position of the guardrail and the configuration of the roadside surface.

Telescopic lateral shift: The mowing unit provides 55 cm of telescopic lateral movement, controlled by an electrically operated hydraulic cylinder. The lateral shift enables precise positioning of the cutting discs beneath the guardrail and adjustment according to the width of the carrier vehicle.

Cutting discs and blade options

Long and short blades for the SKI mower

The SKI guardrail mower can be equipped with long or short blades. The choice depends on the type of vegetation, ground conditions and working environment.

The mower is equipped as standard with rigid long blades featuring a self-ventilating design. They are suitable for mowing grass and shrubs up to 1.5 cm in diameter, but are not recommended for use on stony ground.

Short blades are available as optional equipment and are suitable for different types of terrain. They enable mowing of grass and shrubs up to 1.5 cm in diameter.

Compact transport position and good visibility

The special shape of the support arms enables the mowing unit to be folded into a compact transport position. The attachment therefore does not obstruct the operator’s view during transport and allows the carrier vehicle to travel safely on public roads.

The compact design is particularly important when the mower is used on tractors and Unimog vehicles that frequently travel on public roads between different working sections.
